History
The National University of Kaohsiung (NUK), the only national university instituted in the millennium in Taiwan, was found on February 1, 2000. This university is the first national university in Taiwan to integrate a library and a computer center into one organization.
Education
Being a distinguished teaching institution, this university offers a free academic research environment, we aim to utilize our distinguished teaching programs to cultivate talents with broad vision and profound knowledge in both science and humanities. By utilizing our solid academic research as a strong backup, we look forward to becoming an academic think tank that can help the government in the development of industries and policy-making and the key academic force to assist the growth of enterprises. The departments of NUK emphasize on innovation, integration, and the combination of theory and practice.
Research
NUK encourages the stimulation of teaching and research staff and students’ capacity of research and development to fulfill the industries’ goal of putting theories into practice. We have signed strategic alliance agreements with different institutions.
We have an outstanding research team across different fields, including financial law, Asia-Pacific business and area development, bio-technology, photo-electronic semiconductor, system of chips, communication and information, nano-technology and environmental engineering. This team aims to create a humantechnology- based teaching and research environment, to lay the foundation for professional development.

Student services
We offer a broad range of services and programs that includes the following: career services; student counseling; health center; student activities center. Also, the Student Life Office is responsible for judicial affairs, career development, campus safety, dormitory affairs, military service, financial aid..
Housing services
Dormitory service is responsilbe for: arranging dormitory for freshman students, dormitory equipment maintenance and management; off-campus housing.
Library services
The LIC, opened in August, 2000, combines library services, computing systems, and multimedia resources to provide online access and digital information to our staff and students. It is also open to the local community, hoping to create a life-long learning environment.
ICT services
Campus Internet connection: One high-speed at 400 Megabits/second link to TANET; one ADSL link at 1.5 Megabits/second to HiNet. The campus network connects all buildings via a high-speed fiber optical infrastructure at a speed of 1 Gigabits/second. The campus wireless network covers all teaching buildings, outdoor areas from the west of the track field, the student dormitory, and the Sports.
Medical services
Health services includes: health consultations and handling emergency wounds, health check-ups for freshmen, student groups insurance application and claims and access to first-aid kits and walking sticks.
Campus life
NUK opens its beautiful campus to the greater Kaohsiung community with sports, athletic, and recreation facilities, artistic and music activities, and diverse adult education courses. With tree-lined boulevards, fresh air, and athletic and recreation facilities, our university provides not only “Quality Living” and “Practical Education” but also an “Open Campus” to the greater Kaohsiung community.
Sports facilities
The Sports and Health Recreation Center was established to promote and increase the awarenesss of health and physical fitness and to nurture future leaders in health, sports, and leisure management.
The center, equipped with a wide range of sports and recreational facilities, is open to the University members and the public.
