History
Middlebury is a liberal arts college of the first rank, an achievement that is the result of a process of growth and change that began in 1800, when a few men of the town of Middlebury took upon themselves the challenge of building a college in a small New England town, on what was then the American frontier. Over the more than two centuries since it was established.
Education
The College is committed to educating students in the tradition of the liberal arts, which embodies a method of discourse as well as a group of disciplines; in our scientifically and mathematically oriented majors, just as in the humanities, the social sciences, the arts, and the languages, we emphasize reflection, discussion, and intensive interactions between students and faculty members.
Research
Each summer at Middlebury, over 100 students are engaged in on-campus research with a faculty mentor. The topics range from Philosophy to Biochemistry. Most students are paid through various funding sources, including faculty grants and college endowed funds. Positions are available through individual faculty members. Students should contact faculty they wish to work with by March.
Career
The staff at the Center for Careers and Internships plan to work primarily remotely through the Fall 2020 semester per Vermont and College guidelines designed to safeguard student health.
CCI Advisors are here to help you select a major, look for a summer internship, evaluate career possibilities, apply to graduate school, or look for a job. Top notch professors, extremely helpful
Middlebury College is such a beautiful institution that fosters a wonderful community of students and lecturers. The lecturers are fantastic and inventive, creating a fun and engaging learning environment. The campus is not too small to be difficult to navigate, but it is large enough not to be overwhelming. Middlebury College is an outstanding educational establishment with a vibrant student body, dedicated instructors, and a stunning campus.
Middlebury College has a great environment!
Middlebury College is genuinely a great school and Im happy to be a part of it. The classes are generally small (around 15-20 students per section), lectures are bigger, and the professors care about their students. Even my lecture professor knows everyones name. The general student body is friendly and wants to get to know you. Its also not a competitive environment at all. The accommodations (residences, dining halls, etc) are from what Ive seen pretty good. The academics, it goes without saying are amazing, especially the language and science programs. There are some cons to Middlebury. In my opinion, the registration process is the worst. As a freshman its pretty hard to get all the classes you want, but theres ways to get around it sometimes. Its also pretty isolated which makes flying (or driving) home a pretty long trip, unless you live in one of the primary Northeast coast cities. Despite this I still love Middlebury and would urge anyone who is considering it to apply.

- MCAB is the largest student programming body on campus. We plan everything from small concerts, Atwater dinners and Free Friday Films to big speakers, large scale concerts and Winter Carnival.
Housing services
The residential undergraduate college experience creates an opportunity for community that often comes along only once in a lifetime. The enormously supportive and engaged faculty and staff at Middlebury College work hard every day to help students make the most of it for themselves and those around them. As Middlebury attracts students from diverse backgrounds, our system must nurture the educational and personal development—and personal responsibility—of all students.
Library services
We connect our community to the universe of information; steward our unique and rare resources for the needs of current and future generations; design compelling spaces for collaboration, creation, and contemplation; and foster intellectual community and transformative scholarship and teaching; all in the service of instilling in our students a life-long passion for personal growth and learning.

Campus life
- The facilities at Middlebury—academic, residential, artistic, and athletic—are among the very best in the country. Over the past two decades, the College has engaged in an ambitious building program and continues to maintain its facilities to a high standard.
- The Center for the Arts is a 100,000-square-foot building that opened in 1992 and provides offices and performance spaces for the music, dance, and theatre programs, in addition to housing the Museum of Art. McCardell Bicentennial Hall, a 220,000-square-foot building completed in 1999, houses seven departments in the natural and social sciences and has won several awards for both energy and environmental efficiency and technological sophistication.
Sports facilities
Middlebury's well-maintained playing fields and outstanding athletic facilities rank among the best in the country. The College boasts an 18-hole golf course and 3.5-kilometer Red Kelly cross-country and jogging trail on campus. The nearby mountain campus includes the Middlebury Snow Bowl for alpine skiing and Carroll and Jane Rikert Ski Touring Center for nordic skiing. Outdoor facilities boast impressive views of the Adirondacks and the Green Mountains, while the 2015 addition of Virtue Field House gave the school 110,000 square feet of indoor space, including a state-of-the-art squash center to go along with the hockey arena and Olympic sized swimming pool.
Student clubs
Clubs, publications, intramurals, cultural activities and events, student government, outings, religious and spiritual activities, and community engagement are great ways to get involved at Middlebury.
The SGA acts as a single unified group, representing students in the decision-making processes of the College. It is the official channel for student participation in formulating institutional policy affecting academic and student affairs.
Accreditation
Middlebury and its schools and programs are accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE).
