The Universidad Austral de Chile (UACh) was founded in Valdivia in 1954, mainly through the initiative of local citizens. Great experience
Valdivia is a great city to study in, because it has a lot of nature and activities. The university has also a lot of green areas to be in. Specifically, the geology major is relatively new (10 years), but it has good teachers and a good curricular framework. There are many field trips, during which one can learn a lot.

Well-being and learning should go hand in hand
I think that we have a lot of teachers that are quite humane and caring, but we are lacking in research and in our capacity to teach things effectively and efficiently. Most of our teachers haven't been through courses on pedagogy/andragogy, and they have a lot of troubles with planning classes and planning the curriculum in general. There's a lot of academic overload, in part thanks to this and also thanks to the sheer quantity of things to learn. I truly believe in the saying "sometimes, less is more". It seems to me that, by trying so hard to give this great volume of knowledge to students, we are only burning them out, and jeopardizing their learning.
