Through the Open University and the Distance Education System, UNAM offers twenty-two undergraduate programs, one technical program, one distance high school, four doctoral and fourteen master programs, in twelve schools, two national schools, and one extension center in the University itself, as well as in the states of: Chiapas, Mexico, Guerrero, Oaxaca, Tabasco, and Tlaxcala.
UNAM produces 34 per cent of the articles written by Mexican scientists registered in the International Science Indicators (ISI). It excels for its leadership in several areas of knowledge, both within the national scientific environment and at the international level. 22 per cent of the academics who make up the National System of Researchers, and 45 per cent among those with the highest academic rank in the country belong to UNAM.
UNAM has 139 libraries distributed in its different schools, national schools, centers, museums and observatories. In addition to the National and the Newspaper Libraries, every academic body has at least one library. These bibliographical heritage represents a third part of the entire National Network of Public Libraries.
University City, located in the southern area of Mexico City, is an urban architectural complex of exceptional quality and great historical value, which design and construction was undertaken by Mexico’s most renowned architects, engineers, and artists.
Its 730 hectares house 13 schools and one national school, 26 institutes, seven centers, and eight research programs, the Central Administration offices, the Cultural Center, sports facilities, the National Library and the Newspaper Archive as well as colleges, schools, institutes, and research centers. Its wide territorial extension includes a vast zone of an ecological reserve.
