The University of Bridgeport was founded in 1927 as the Junior College of Connecticut – the first junior college chartered by any legislature in the northeastern states. In the words of its founders, the college’s purpose was to develop in students “a point of view and a habit of mind that promotes clear thinking and sound judgment in later professional and business experience.”

Library services
The University of Bridgeport’s Bookstore provides textbooks, course packs, and other school supplies for students and professors including Rent-A-Text, which offers students a textbook rental option. Conveniently located across from the student center in Mandeville Hall, the bookstore also carries a wide variety of apparel, memorabilia, gifts, and snacks, as well as personal care items.
Medical services
The University of Bridgeport Student Health Services offers high quality, student health care for the treatment of acute illnesses and injuries. Serious medical problems are referred to the local hospital emergency room. A medical director, nurse practitioners, and nurses staff the center.
