My Experience at UKF
Studying Translation Studies (English and Russian) at the Faculty of Arts, Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra (UKF) has taught me a lot and helped me grow academically. Over the course of my studies, I have significantly improved my language skills and deepened my understanding of translation theory and practice. One of the strongest aspects of the program is the professionalism and support of the teaching staff. Their feedback and guidance have been valuable throughout my studies. Importantly, they often share practical advice that is directly applicable in real translation work. Many of them speak from personal experience, offering tips on how to avoid common mistakes and improve translation quality. This, in fact, serves as a fine link between theory and life's demands. The overall atmosphere at the faculty is welcoming, and the student community is friendly and cooperative. It is easy to work in teams and to feel motivated in such an environment. However, there are areas for improvement. Some courses contain too much theory that seems disconnected from real-life practice. In particular, several linguistic or theoretical models were so abstract that it felt unlikely they would be useful in any future job. This created a gap between academic study and professional application. Additionally, some lectures were delivered passively, with limited student interaction, which sometimes reduced engagement and interest. Overall, I am grateful for my experience at UKF and for the personal and academic growth I have achieved during my time here.
Study experience at my institution
I think my university puts enough emphasis on theory, but often at the expense of practice. Personally, I would like to see more practical courses in the areas of creation, communication and educational methodology.
My university
The subjects and the topics we cover are interesting and develop our knowledge and pedagogical skills, but I miss the strong practical side of the lessons, which I would like to improve in a self-taught way and gain more experience.

Accommodation is one of the basic services for the students. UKF has two Halls of Residence, which offer accommodation in two-, three- and four-bed rooms.
In both Halls of Residence, the University Canteen provides hot meals (lunch and supper) and catering services in the cafeterias. Additionally, each dormitory floor is equipped with a kitchenette for simple preparation and consumption of food. All rooms are connected to the Internet, and WiFi is available in the lobby in each building.
Library services
To promote education, research, development and creative activities, the University Library provides lending, research and reference services and trains the students and members of academia.
ICT services
UKF provides freely accessible computers and wireless networks to its students and staff in almost all university buildings through Eduroam network.
Medical services
International student (including PhD student) coming to Slovakia to study within a programme arising from an international treaty (and that treaty is binding for the Slovak Republic) is subject to statutory health insurance, the Slovak Republic being the payer of such insurance. Other international students must be insured privately.
Campus life
Nitra is one of the oldest Slovak towns and its early settlements trace back to prehistoric times, as documented by numerous archaeological finds in the city quarters. It was the seat of the Nitra Principality and it was at the peak of its fame during the Great Moravian Empire.
Nitra is closely connected with Pribina, King Svätopluk and the arrival of the Thessaloniki brothers Constantine and Methodius. Therefore, the college life in this city is a blend of historical traditions and modern trends of contemporary life.
Sports facilities
In addition to individual sports, the sports activities of UKF students are focused especially on team sports. An important role is played by the following sports clubs: Volley Project UKF Nitra, Junior UKF Youth Basketball Club, Taekwondo UKF Nitra and hockey team Philosophers Nitra

It is composed of elected student representatives from the Academic Senates of the respective faculties, but it is also open to other University students. The most important event held by the Parliament in cooperation with the University is the Nitra University Days, which takes place at the end of April and beginning of May at both universities under the auspices of its Rectors and the Mayor of Nitra.
- Association of Hungarian Students – JUGYIK is a joint club of Constantine the Philosopher University and Slovak University of Agriculture.
