History
The University of Groningen has a rich history and an excellent reputation. Many prominent Dutch people have studied at Groningen, including Bernard and Maurits van Vollenhoven (Princes of Orange-Nassau), Epke Zonderland (the Flying Dutchman) and television journalist Eelco Bosch van Rosenthal.
Education
University College Groningen offers a BA/BSc in Liberal Arts and Sciences, and forms part of the University of Groningen, a top 100 world-ranked university. The small scale, intensive programme is taught entirely in English and focuses on important themes of our time: Energy, Healthy Ageing and Sustainable Society.
At UCG you will follow an innovative Liberal Arts and Sciences programme, providing you with a broad yet highly integrated bachelor’s degree. You will study a range of academic subjects in the medical and natural sciences, social sciences and humanities, with the opportunity to specialise in a discipline you are passionate about.

Being a student at University College Groningen means you’ll be part of a community and you'll live in UCG accommodation for the first year of study. After the first year students may choose to stay at the UCG accommodation or to find other accommodation.
UCG students live at Frascati International Students House, situated next to Groningen train station overlooking the Zuiderhaven canal, and just a few minutes away from the UCG campus building and city centre.
In each unit there is a kitchen, common room and bathroom facilities to be shared by the students in that unit. The building also has a laundry room, sports facilities and lockable bike shed.
Library services
The University of Groningen offers excellent facilities, including a library with a large wide-ranging collection, plenty of workspaces and modern research rooms. The library also provides dedicated study support and an extensive online learning environment.
Campus life
University College Groningen is based in a beautifully renovated building in downtown Groningen, a stones throw away from the city centre. The space includes creative studios, lecture rooms, an international classroom and scenario labs with touch screen tables, providing a dynamic and interactive learning environment, as well as a library for silent study.
The UCG academic building is located just a few minutes from Groningen's lively city centre and the UCG student residences which are situated next to Groningen train station.
Sports facilities
For just a small membership fee, students can make unlimited use of the facilities at the University Sports Centre for a whole year. The Sports Centre offers more than 85 sports. Furthermore, the University offers special arrangements for top athletes to adapt their study programme to their athletic programme.
Student clubs
Caerus is the study association for the students of University College Groningen. Caerus is a vibrant society with a number of committees that organise many social and academic activities throughout the year. This includes sports events, parties, dinners and camping trips, as well as guest lectures, excursions, and skills training. Caerus brings UCG students together, as well as creating plenty of opportunities to meet other students from Groningen and the other University Colleges in the Netherlands.
