Based on the 1975 Austrian University Organisation Act, the University of Mining has been known as Montanuniversität Leoben since 1 October 1975. Having crossed the 1000-student threshold in 1981, student numbers for 2012/13 reached approx. 3,300 – the highest since the university was founded. Montanuniversität has offered only Bachelors and Masters programmes since 2011/12.
The study programmes offered at Montanuniversität are based along the value-added chain, from raw materials and production materials, on to the finished product. The range of studies is complimented by multidisciplinary fields such as Industrial Energy Technology and Industrial Logistics. The first year of studies, as an introductory phase, is the same for all students. As a result, students can switch study programmes seamlessly at the end of the first year without losing any time.
Montanuniversität Leoben is uniquely linked in research clusters with business and scientific partners across Austria.

There are lots of things to do when you are studying at Montanuniversität. Away from the university and research departments, the city of Leoben has a lively social scene and an amazing range of health and fitness facilities, shops and culture.
As a balance to academic life, the USI Leoben offers a wide range of sports courses and training for small membership fees. For first-year students, it is a great way to try out new sports and meet fellow students at the same time.
Besides classes and academic life at the university, Leoben features active and flourishing student societies. Students can get involved in study-related, cultural, political or sports clubs and thereby make new contacts and pursue their interests.

The landscape is very beautiful and you have good connections to Wien and Graz. The city is very little but enough to do activities such as cinema , bowling, restaurants and partys. It is not a good place if you want to go out everyday because there is...
