The new South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences – Xamk – started on 1 January 2017 when Kymenlaakso and Mikkeli Universities of Applied Sciences merged.


Xamk provides a broad range of education services.

  • specialisation education
  • apprenticeship training in higher education


Research, development and innovation are part of the basic mission of Xamk.  The concept of research, development and innovation (RDI) refers to applied research to promote business, expertise and competitiveness in the region, as well as national and international innovations.

Regional development and the development of expertise to meet the needs of employers are among the basic undertakings of universities of applied sciences. RDI activities produce research data and new methods, products and services.

RDI activities are carried out through programmes, projects or Bachelor’s and Master’s theses. Xamk has over 150 projects carried out each year.


Library services

The Library services of South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences provides library services to the students and staff of Xamk in Kotka, Kouvola, Mikkeli, and Savonlinna.

Student Life

Campus life

Xamk has four modern campuses located in Kymenlaakso end Southern Savonia regions. Campuses are  conveniently located in the town centre or nearby.

The range of services on campus is wide: restaurants, cafés, libraries, indoor and outdoor sport and leisure facilities, as well as services to promote studying and student well-being.

The learning environments – classrooms, auditoriums, laboratories, workshops, etc. – are modern and comfortable. In addition to providing education, all campuses engage in a diverse range of research and development activities and provide services.

Student clubs

Mamok, the student union of Mamk is a body of observing the welfare of Mamk students. Mamok aims at developing students´welfare and studying environment. It organises different kind of free time activities, happenings and tutoring. The members of Mamok are issued a membership card entitling to considerable student benefits. Foreign students can´t receive the membership card if their study period lasts less than 8 months.

International Club (IC) is meant for Mamk students who are interested in international contacts and events. IC takes care of tutoring exchange students and arranging free-time events/activities like sauna parties, ice fishing trips and sports activities. Happenings are arranged throughout the year according to the season and they are mainly meant for exchange/foreign students. You will make friends with students of several different nationalities by attending the activities.
