We are dedicated to academic rigor, open-minded thinking, and scientific impact. We do this by bringing together four of Europe’s top Economics research groups: 

  • Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF) Department of Economics and Business 

  • Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) Unit of Economic Analysis 

  • Institute for Economic Analysis (IAE-CSIC) 

  • Center for Research in International Economics (CREI)


Our rigorous Master’s programs are designed and taught by researchers from these four academic units. They are our Barcelona School of Economics Affiliated Professors, our core teaching faculty of more than 150 accomplished researchers and instructors who exemplify the pursuit of excellence that we aim to instill in every student.

 Here is a brief profile of the classmates that a Master's student in the BSE Class of 2022 will meet this year:

  • Most students have undergraduate degrees in Economics or Finance. Others come from Engineering, Mathematics, or other backgrounds. 
  • Most of the students has work experience before joining BSE, but there are other students who were accepted to pursue the Master's programs immediately after obtaining their undergraduate degrees.
  • All continents are represented in the Class of 2022. This year, students come from 49 different countries, with 86% of students coming from outside of Spain and 44% of students coming from outside Europe.


The joint efforts of our academic units have positioned the Barcelona School of Economics among the world's top research groups. Evidence of our research community's strength includes competitive research rankings (Top 10 Economics Department in the World, RePEc March 2022), three consecutive Severo Ochoa Excellence Accreditations (2012-2015; 2016-2019; 2020-23), and the consolidation of the Barcelona School of Economics Summer Forum as the premier annual conference in Europe for top researchers.


Our Career Services team provides students and alumni with a portfolio of resources to support their career development and prepare them for a successful job search.


We also work with recruiters and the Barcelona  School of Economics network of faculty and alumni to identify placement opportunities that match the quality and caliber of our Master's graduates.

Housing services

The Barcelona School of Economics Admissions Office is happy to assist new master's students looking to establish their student lives quickly and comfortably. There are several types of accommodation that we hope will fit every budget and preference. Typical living arrangements that students choose include:

  • Over 500,000 publications and more than 6,000 periodical subscriptions
  • Electronic Library: on-line access to full-text information resources including catalogs/databases, over 10,000 electronic journals, 6,700 electronic books
  • Long opening hours, including 24-hour access during exam periods.

ICT services

The Barcelona School of Economics launched a new online platform for alumni of the Master’s programs. The platform offers several ways for alumni to reconnect with classmates, find other alumni working in their industry, and participate in alumni activities wherever they are currently living.

Campus life

With one campus just steps from the Mediterranean Sea and the other in the middle of a beautiful mountain landscape, Barcelona School of Economics students and researchers have two unique environments for their academic activities. 

Barcelona School of Economics study programs and research centers are located on two main campuses:

  • Ciutadella Campus in the center of Barcelona
  • Bellaterra Campus a short distance outside the city

Sports facilities

Annual "futsal" (indoor football) tournament. Teams matched Master's students against alumni and faculty.

Student clubs

A few times each term, we organize social events to give students a chance to relax—and leave the library! Students, alumni, and professors are invited to participate in events such as picnics on campus and excursions to nearby nature parks or wineries.

All Barcelona School of Economics master degrees have been recognized by the Catalan and Spanish Education authorities within the framework of the Bologna Process (in Spanish, “Master Universitario o Master Oficial”). 

The Barcelona School of Economics was distinguished as one of only eight top research institutions of excellence with an international impact in the framework of the Severo Ochoa Program.
