Key Features
The Population Studies programme is offered by the Institute of Population Studies and Research at University of Nairobi. The Institute was established as a centre of excellence for training in population sciences and undertaking research on population, development, and related issues. PSRI is the only such Institute in Kenya.
Its mandate is to undertake postgraduate training for population scientists, undertake research in the field of population, development, and reproductive health and provide technical backstopping to the Government of Kenya, International, and national Non-governmental organizations, and the United Nations among others on matters of population and development, and population management.

General requirements
The common Regulations for the Masters degree in all Faculties shall be applicable.
The following shall be eligible:
- holders of a Bachelor's degree of the University of Nairobi with at least an upper Second Class Honours, or other candidates with equivalent qualifications recognised by senate.
- holders of Lower Second Class honours degrees or equivalent and a diploma in population studies or at least 2 years work experience in population-related field.
- holders of a pass degree and a post-graduate diploma in population studies with at least three years of work experience in a population related field.
- holders of a pass degree with a distinction pass in post-graduate certificate in population and at least five years of work experience in population related field.
