Environment and Sustainability Radboud University

Overview

In this specialisation, you will dive into ecological questions and issues and connect scientific findings to societal implications or environmental policies. You will be trained to become an environmental expert, analysing the human impact on nature. You will learn to quantify and unravel the effects of stressors - like climate change or chemical pollution and connect scientific findings to sustainability solutions. 

One year of your Master’s is completely dedicated to scientific or applied research. You’ll learn to design, perform and evaluate your own research project, at one of the departments in the institute or elsewhere. A research project is typically focused on a topical question related to environmental sustainability (e.g., how can we make agriculture more sustainable) and usually includes a strong data analysis component.

Future career opportunities

You will be trained to become an environmental expert, educated to analyse the impacts of mankind on nature and use this knowledge to support sustainability transitions. On the job market, there’s a great demand for environmental experts who can make the connection between science and society. Our graduates work across a wide variety of jobs, including research, policy support, consultancy, and environmental education:

• Researcher at a university or research institute
• Consultant at a governmental agency, like a ministry

• Researcher in a company, either a large or a start-up company

• Risk analyser

• Consultant at a consulting firm

• Policy officer at a governmental organisation or an NGO

• Researcher at a governmental research institute

• Communications officer at an environmental organisation
• Teacher in Biology (College or secondary education level)
