Overview

Designed for distance learners, Global Histories (Online) at SOAS University of London fosters a vibrant international community and critical engagement with Eurocentric narratives. Core modules examine the forces behind today’s global landscape (The Making of the Contemporary World), key methods and debates in historical analysis (Approaches to Global Histories), and long-term human-environment dynamics (Deep Histories of Humanity).

With research-methods training and a supervised dissertation or project, you will develop advanced analytical, research, and communication skills to apply global-historical thinking across academic, professional, and public contexts.

Employment

We know you’re choosing this programme to advance your career and make a real difference in the world – that’s why we embed employability in every module.

Teaching and assessments are designed to develop a range of skills valued by employers. This includes analytical and critical thinking, communication, research and enquiry, and professional and project management skills.

This is why recent graduates from the Department of History have been hired by Amnesty International, Chatham House, the Ministry of Defence, and the UK Border Agency.
