Programme Structure

Learning and assessment:

An MSc by Research allows you a greater degree of independence than a taught Master’s course. You will be expected to come up with an approved programme in partnership with your supervisor during the first few months.

While engaged in your research, you will also refine your skills through training courses and events. The Graduate Research School’s training programme offers a range of sessions.

The MSc by Research involves writing a Master's thesis under the supervision of a member of academic staff. Regular supervision, interim reports and group seminars will ensure good progress towards a final dissertation.

Final assessment is by an oral examination of a research thesis. You're expected to show how your research findings have contributed to knowledge or developed an existing theory or understanding.
