Overview
The Step Up to Social Work programme from The University of Lancashire is delivered in partnership with local authorities in the East Midlands. Some sessions are online and some are in-person in the East Midlands.
Key facts
- You'll learn and undertake placements required by Social Work England to qualify in 14 months. Teaching is delivered full-time by experienced academics through a blended learning approach.
- It is likely you'll have to study in the evenings and at weekends to meet the requirements to qualify within the 14 months of the programme. There are set holiday periods throughout the course.
What you'll do
- You'll have two placements with your supporting local authority. The first placement will be 80 days and the second placement will be 100 days. There will also be 20 skills days during the course.
- Your placements will be organised for you by the East Midlands regional partnership. The Social Work course is delivered by our quality Social Work teaching team.
- Study alongside your placements, with theory and practice being integrated together to best prepare you for life post qualification.

- A minimum 2:2 undergraduate degree qualification (level 6)
- 6 months’ full-time (or equivalent) direct experience, either in a paid or voluntary capacity, of working with vulnerable children, young people and/or families, carers or vulnerable adults
- GCSEs in English or English language and mathematics at grade 4 (C) or above (or an approved equivalent)
