Overview

The Critical Care Nursing programme from The University of Lancashire gives you the flexibility to shape your future in critical care nursing.

The course integrates the following standards and frameworks:

National Standards for Critical Care Nurse Education

National Competency Framework for Critical Care Nurses (Critical Care Networks [CC3N], 2012).

The course is made up of three distinct modules. On these modules you'll explore policy to support the assessment, monitoring and nursing management of critical care patients.

Please note that you can complete this course as a graduate certificate (GradCert) or a postgraduate certificate (PGCert). The graduate certificate is a Level 6 qualification. The postgraduate certificate is a Level 7 qualification, which is a more advanced level of study.

What you'll do

A variety of adult learning styles are used within each taught session. Learning and practice activities are designed to support personal and professional development.

Active sessions offer students the opportunity to gain experience using interactive technology.

Reflection plays a key role in the course and supports the evidence base needed to achieve the step 2 & 3 national competencies.

General requirements

First Degree at 2:2 or above or evidence of successful study at level 6

Students must have a current professional registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council and should provide their NMC pin with the application

Work within clinical practice area where the assessment and management of Level 3 critical care patients takes place, for a minimum of twelve months, and be contracted to work for at least 18 hours per week

Have completed Step 1 National Critical Care Competencies and provide the completion date on application

Be supported by their manager and have a designated mentor to support the practical component of the award

Be able to satisfy the Course Leader that you are competent to pursue the programme
