Overview
Key facts
Artificial intelligence (AI) and digital technology are transforming education across all stages of life. They enable personalized and flexible learning environments, support learners, and reduce the workload of educators. At the same time, their effective use requires interdisciplinary expertise that combines technological knowledge with an understanding of learning processes.
The Master’s program AI and Digital Technology in Learning and Instruction at Goethe University Frankfurt prepares students to address these challenges at the intersection of computer science and educational psychology. Students learn to analyze educational problems scientifically and to design, implement, and evaluate AI-based solutions for learning and instruction.
The program is based on a competency model for the effective use of AI and digital technologies in education. A strong emphasis is placed on interdisciplinary exchange: Students from different academic backgrounds collaborate and learn from each other.
At the beginning of the program, students acquire foundational knowledge in the complementary discipline through bridging modules. In the advanced phase, these foundations are integrated and expanded in interdisciplinary courses, where students develop specialized, research-based, and practice-oriented competencies.
Career prospects
Graduates are well prepared for a wide range of career paths. In the public sector, they can take on strategic roles such as advising on and implementing policies for educational technologies, contributing to curriculum development, conducting research, or working in data protection for digital education. In the private sector, career opportunities include instructional design, AI specialization, e-learning software development, product development, business development, and consulting or management roles. In addition, graduates are qualified for academic careers in research institutions, universities, and industry-based research environments.
