Overview
The LL.M. in International Trade and Investment Law is a one-year, on-site program delivered at the EPLO premises in Rome, Italy, building on the legacy of ELGS's predecessor degree in International Economic Law. The curriculum covers the core pillars of trade and investment — from WTO dispute settlement and investor-state arbitration to e-commerce, AI regulation, and emerging investment protection frameworks — combining rigorous academic theory with practical application through lectures, moot courts, and site visits.
The program is open to graduates and professionals from law, economics, political science, international relations, and business who seek advanced expertise in international legal and economic environments. Graduates leave equipped to pursue careers in international law firms, multinational corporations, investment banks, international arbitration practices, and international organizations including the WTO, UN bodies, OECD, and EU institutions.
Students complete 6 compulsory modules — covering public international law, trade in goods and remedies, investment law, trade in services, investment arbitration, and contemporary trade issues — plus 2 elective modules from topics including regional trade agreements, ADR, sustainable development, economic sanctions, and trade-related IP rights. The program awards 90 ECTS credits and requires a 15,000-word thesis.
Faculty includes academics and practitioners actively working in international law, EU policy, and global economic governance, with direct access to EPLO's institutional network and high-level policy dialogue throughout the year.
