Overview
Graduates of the Master in Education Studies (Visual Arts) at the Marino Institute of Education will have the ability to critically appraise and reconceptualise approaches and to break out of established patterns in order to look at or explore things in different ways.

This course is for those who have a particular interest in visual arts and the intersection of arts and education. It is also open to primary teachers, ‘teaching’ artists, artist-teachers working in socially engaged practices who wish to acquire critical understanding about learning in, through and from visual arts. The course is also open to other educators or professionals who employ visual arts as a methodology for learning in diverse educational contexts and wish to evolve their practice in imaginative and integrated ways.
- Critically discuss key ideas in educational leadership theory and practice with particular, but not exclusive, reference to visual arts education
- Explore the ideas of various thinkers in visual arts education, and critically evaluate them
- Pursue study and scholarship in educational studies and visual arts education
- Undertake a substantial piece of academic research in visual arts education
- Identify areas of focus for future professional development as required by the Teaching Council and other bodies, acknowledging that learning is a lifelong process
- Develop the skills required to become an effective researcher in education studies, with particular reference to visual arts education
- Critically reflect on their experiences in education, as students, teachers or other partners, and document how this reflection informs their practice

- An honours degree (level 8) with second class honours or higher and at least three years teaching or equivalent professional experience. In exceptional cases applicants who meet the honours degree requirement but do not have the necessary experience may be considered for the course. English Language Requirement IELTS Level 6.5 (or equivalent).
