About

The Textiles programme of Konstfack University College of Arts, Crafts and Design takes an interdisciplinary position and aims at strengthening your professional practice and at the same time further the development of critical Textile knowledge in order to be better able to participate in critical discourse, both in the chosen field, surrounding practices and other parts of society.

Overview

The Textiles programme of Konstfack University College of Arts, Crafts and Design intends for the students to problematize and structure their own projects, together with other students and teachers in a creative environment. During the two years we use methods like seminars, studio practice, exhibition situations, study groups, tutoring, open critiques, fieldwork, theory- and practice laborations and other methods relevant to the education.

Textile is ever present; part of almost every human experience and in many ways textile is both the foundation of, and a testimony to the human ability to build complicated structures and systems, like binary digital technology, sprung out of the punch card for the Jacquard loom. Language is littered with textile metaphors - interweave, the fabric of life, follow threads - but the textile itself is also a carrier of codes and values, reflecting the historic and ruling economic and social systems. Contemporary and traditional textile strategies are powerful tools for research, criticality and norm critical material practice.

Programme Structure

By using craft as a method and theoretical position you will strengthen your master degree project and your artistic practice, parallel, and in dialogue with the aim of the education.

The program is research preporatory.
