Overview

The Early Childhood Education (PreK-5) program at The University of Toledo is designed for the student who already holds a baccalaureate degree in a major other than education and wants to become a licensed early childhood teacher in the State of Ohio.

The program provides coursework that will lead toward initial PK - 5 teacher licensing in the State of Ohio and, at the same time, meet the requirements for a Masters Degree in Education.

The Master of Education in Early Childhood Education degree is designed for those who wish to become more effective educators. Students in this program develop expertise in the theory, research and practice of working with young children.

Careers

Most positions in the field of Early Childhood Education involve working directly with young children either through teaching, administrative, or leadership positions.

Graduates with a non-licensure master’s degree in Early Childhood Education typically pursue a terminal degree in the field or director-level roles in schools, agencies and similar organizations.

A baccalaureate degree from an accredited four-year institution
A well-written statement of purpose describing your background and goals as well as the importance of this degree in achieving those goals
One letter of recommendation regarding your potential for doing master's level work from professionals such as an undergraduate major advisor, current employer, school principal or others who are knowledgeable about your ability to engage in graduate work in this degree program
