Overview

The Secondary Education program at The University of Toledo is a unique blend of theory with practice, developed and implemented by an interdisciplinary team of educators.

This one-year program is designed to meet the needs of already degreed adult learners and is a comprehensive graduate program. Individuals who already hold a baccalaureate degree in a major other than education can, in one year, become a licensed teacher the State of Ohio.

Careers

UToledo students who earn an initial Ohio teaching licensure and M.Ed. are well-prepared to lead and manage classrooms. 90% of Licensure and Master's Program (LAMP) students receive job offers before graduating.

LAMP graduates are highly sought-after by public school systems across Ohio for their excellent teaching skills.

As a LAMP student, you are guaranteed a student-teaching placement in Toledo Public Schools or a neighboring school district. UToledo's College of Education takes advantage of community partnerships to find placements that are good fits for each graduate degree student. Internships with mentor teachers in classroom settings — combined with classes on campus — produce better experiences and outcomes.

A baccalaureate degree from an accredited four-year institution
A well-written statement of purpose describing your background and goals as well as the importance of this degree in achieving those goals
One letter of recommendation regarding your potential for doing master's level work from professionals such as an undergraduate major advisor, current employer, school principal or others who are knowledgeable about your ability to engage in graduate work in this degree program
An overall grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.7 on a 4.0 scale in all undergraduate work is preferred
