Overview
The Public Health Sciences course from Queen's University is available for candidates with at least two years of cumulative full-time paid employment in health care, public health or a related field.
You may also be interested in our Specialization in Infection Prevention and Control, an embedded training opportunity within the MPH that combines foundational training in public health competencies with technical training and experiential learning in infection prevention and control.
We teach our students face-to-face and prioritize collaborative learning. We value our students and support them to succeed. The MPH is delivered as a blend of in-person courses, online courses, and off-campus experiential learning through a summer practicum with a host organization. Required courses are delivered in person and students are expected to attend on campus in the fall and winter terms.
Program outcomes are statements that express what students can actually DO at the completion of the program.
The goal is to educate, equip and inspire students to:
Define public health issues using a population health approach
Search for evidence to address public health issues
Appraise and interpret public health evidence
Synthesize evidence to develop recommendations for public health action
Adapt public health communication and evidence-based interventions to specific contexts and populations
Plan to implement public health programs, services and policies
Evaluate the process and outcomes of public health actions
Demonstrate development of core attitudes and values of a public health professional

General requirements
Candidates for admission must hold a minimum 75% average in one of the following degrees awarded by a recognized University:
- An honours Bachelor Degree in Arts or Science
- A Bachelor Degree in Applied Science or Law
A Degree of Doctor of Medicine
Note that degree average/GPA is calculated using course grades from the most recent 20 courses on the most recent transcript (most commonly, years 3 and 4 of an undergraduate degree).
- Undergraduate level course in statistics, mathematics or data analysis, with a minimum grade of 75%. (See note on Quantitative Admission Requirement below)
- One copy of official transcripts from each post-secondary institution you have attended
- Two reference letters
