Students in the program can choose chemistry sub-discipline for their specialization: analytical, physical, or organic and biomolecular chemistry.

The Chemistry program from University of Latvia is based on a student-centred approach, which focuses on the students’ learning process, the development of their responsibility for the results in learning and research. The planned study outcomes, which students must be able to demonstrate after successful completion of the Master's program are based on bachelor’s competencies, which are extended and developed further in the Master's program, emphasizing scientific research and providing basis for independent decision-making and the application of the gained knowledge and skills in practice.

The program engages practitioners and professionals from various institutions to teach individual lectures in study courses to promote the unity of theory and practice. This helps provide students with a greater degree of practical knowledge and skills, increasing their competitiveness in global labor markets, as well as the necessary skills to carry out research in academic and industrial laboratories.

General requirements

Version 1 of previous education: first-cycle higher education (bachelor's degree or second-level professional higher education (or equivalent education)) in chemistry, chemical technology, pharmacy, food technology, material science and biotechnology; competition evaluation criteria are: average weighted grade (60 x 10 = 600) + total (or average) grade of the final exams (40 x 10 = 400);

Version 2 of previous education: first-cycle higher education (bachelor's degree or second-level professional higher education (or equivalent education)) in natural sciences, engineering; competition evaluation criteria are: entrance exam (1 x 1000 = 1000)
The average grade in study courses must be 60% of the maximum.
