History left its marks on Riga and gave birth to touristic attractions such as neoclassical statues, The Swedish Gate and Riga Castle. Riga also has a basketball history, with two European championship winner clubs for men and women. The most notorious teams of basketball are the BK VEF Riga, Barons LMT and TTT Riga.

International atmosphere in Riga

Riga is one of the European cities that turned historical events on its side. Lately, the capital of Latvia registered a touristic growth, along with an increasing amount of cultural events. The multicultural 800 years old city is a dynamic economy site that welcomes both students and tourists.

The high number of Russian working immigrants led to a decreasing amount of locals in Riga and this is the reason why in some neighbourhoods the local language isn’t spoken. In Riga you will hear Russian, Latvian and English, as well as other languages.

Weather in Riga is humid, due to the approach to the sea, but moderate. The coldest days are in January and February, with an average of -5°C (23°F) and the warmest are in summer, with average temperatures of 18°C (64°F).
