Career opportunities
Training in Materials Engineering was launched at the NOVA School of Science and Technology FCT|NOVA in 1981. Since then, the demand for Material Engineers has increased significantly, as a result of a highly technological training that enables the Masters in Materials Engineering to exercise a profession immediately after completing the course.The employability of the Masters in Materials Engineering is 94%, according to official data, obtained for graduates between the academic years 2014/15 and 2017/18.
In which the sectors of activity of graduates are as follows: 11% Extractive Industry, 22% Services and Consulting, 23% Manufacturing, 44% Education/Teaching.

General requirements
- Holders of bachelor’s degree or legal equivalent in Micro and Nanotechnologies engineering, Materials Engineering, Physics Engineering or Electrical Engineering. Candidates with similar backgrounds will be evaluated based on their Curriculum and professional experience.
- Holders of a foreign higher academic degree conferred following a 1st cycle of studies organised in those areas in accordance with the principles of the Bologna Process by a State adhering to this process;
- Holders of a foreign higher academic degree in those areas, which is recognized as meeting the objectives of the bachelor’s degree by the Scientific Council of the Faculty of Science and Technology;
- Holders of a scientific or professional curriculum, which is recognized as attesting capacity to conduct this cycle of studies by the Scientific Council of the Faculty of Science and Technology under proposal of the CC of the cycle of studies.

- Eventual interview.
