Overview
This master’s degree aims to offer, in an innovative way, the possibility of developing critical and analytical competences in the area of literary and cultural studies. This master’s degree counts on the experience of recognised specialists, combining studies and practical work in an interdisciplinary context, choosing paths that connect several theoretical and methodological perspectives.
This allows the reading, interpretation and reflexion of a variety of literary and cultural documents that approach the diversity in several areas, from post-colonialism until migration issues, from gender to equality of opportunities, from matters connected to artistic languages, to the media and subcultures.
Objectives
The main objectives of the master's degree in Literature, Culture and Diversity from University of Madeira are:
- - To acquire foundations of advanced knowledge in literature and culture, allowing the development of originality and initiative in the implementation of ideas at the professional level;
- - To apply knowledge, understand and solve problems in new contexts and in different multidisciplinary environments related to the area of study;
- - To have the ability to assimilate knowledge and deal with complexity, to form judgements from information, reflecting on the social and ethical responsibility of its application;
- - To develop the investigation, knowledge, recovery, study and diffusion of cultures and literatures, from the respect and promotion of cultural diversity.
- - The learning objectives (knowledge, skills and competences) to be developed by students include the use of specific and diverse methodologies in an autonomous and integrated manner, the development of the oriented research and in an independent manner, and the development of international mobility and cultural comprehension.

- - Secondary education diploma or equivalent, or, if the academic qualification does not correspond to the Portuguese secondary education, a document proving that it allows, in the country where it was obtained, access to higher education
- - Course syllabuses and other documents that prove the subjects taught and obtained by the candidates (not applicable when presenting proof of national exams in your country)
- - Proof of completion of national exams in your country (ENEM for candidates from Brazil)
- - Documentary evidence attesting proficiency in the language the study cycle is taught
- - Proof that the candidate holds the Prerequisites (where applicable)
