Overview
The purpose of the MSc degree in Chemical Engineering at University of Cape Town is to master the scientific method, with emphasis on critical evaluation of all information and data. There are two routes available for achieving a Masters degree.
Overview
A student may register for a full research Masters or take a Coursework Masters degree in one of the following:
- Bioprocess engineering
- Catalytic process engineering
- Hydrometallurgical engineering
Masters degree programmes are offered which comprise different levels of research versus course work, thus allowing students to educate themselves according to their particular strengths and career choices. The majority of courses are block week and cover a variety of topics. The Master of Science in Engineering can be either by dissertation only or by coursework (approved by your supervisor) and dissertation.

General requirements
An applicant shall not be admitted as a candidate for the MSc in Biomedical Engineering unless they:
- hold a degree of Bachelor of Science in Engineering or an Honours degree in a quantitative discipline;
- hold a qualification deemed by Senate to be equivalent; or
- have in any other manner attained a level of competence which in the opinion of Senate is adequate for the purpose of admission as a candidate for the degree; and
- have satisfied Senate that they have the necessary background and training to undertake an approved programme of work for the degree of master in the Faculty.
