The Geomatics Engineering Division is a part of the School of Architecture, Planning and Geomatics within the Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment from University of Cape Town. We have a strong industry reputation in terms of graduate attributes and are respected as leading impactful research and communicating this broadly with individual staff contributing in leading roles in national, regional and international professional and academic associations.
Overview
Geomatics is an applied science and a professional discipline. As an applied science it involves an integrated approach to the measurement, analysis, management, and display of geographic and other spatial data. As a professional discipline, geomaticians have specialist skills, knowledge, and understanding in order to provide services that meet the needs of society and which that contribute to social and political stability, quality of life and the management of natural heritage and resources.
Geomatics professionals may be involved in designing, conducting and managing activities relating to surveying, geography, geospatial information systems, land development and planning, land law and geospatial commerce. Geomatics professionals use the latest satellite, laser, acoustic, and machine learning, artificial intelligence, big data and information technologies and are continually branching into new challenging areas of specialisation.

General requirements
- Current learners at school must make sure that all examination results from Grade 11 until September of grade 12 are submitted. Failure to submit these results may result in delays.
- Documents must be submitted as certified electronic copies
- Portfolio
- Include a one-page written motivation in your portfolio giving reasons for wanting to study in this programme
- Please include together with your portfolio and written motivation, certified copies of all your most recent school results and ALL tertiary institution results if you have studied anything after high school
- You may also submit copies or photographs of any other creative work such as drawings, sketches, paintings, or made objects (e.g. ceramics, clothing, carpentry, jewellery, wirework, beadwork, etc.)
