Overview

Another aim of the Linguistics program from Hacettepe University is to contribute to the first and second language acquisition studies by having theoretical and applied studies. The medium of the MA and PhD programs has been English since 1970/71 academic year, and new courses and programs are added in accordance with the scientific developments and social requirements.

Key Features

An important distinguishing feature of the Department of English Linguistics is that it bridges the micro fields of linguistics such as phonology, morphology, syntax, and semantics with other disciplines like psychology, sociology and philosophy to attain a macro perspective in studying language, and thus, provide a multi-faceted language education for the students.

The medium of instruction in the department is 100% English.

General requirements

Applicants are required to hold at least a Bachelor's Degree in any science or humanities field.
A minimum of 70 points (any of the scalar, verbal, or equal-weight categories) in ALES (Academic Personnel and Postgraduate Education Entrance Exam), administered by ÖSYM (Turkish Assessment, Selection and Placement Center), or an equivalent score of 70 points in internationally accepted exams such as GRE or GMAT, which are also subject to Hacettepe University Senate equivalence standards,
Minimum of 85 in English in YDS (Foreign Language Exam), or internationally valid scores, which are subject to ÖSYM equivalence standards.
