Key Features

The department also regularly organizes theater events, conferences and cultural trips from time to time. The plays that are staged by the students of our department every year are of great interest to the students and staff of our university.
Teaching including popular culture, women's literature, media, ethnic minority studies, colonization and post-colonial studies is implemented in the department. In-class discussions, term papers prepared by the students and in-class studies are as important as the information given by the lecturers.

General requirements

BA degree in English Language and Literature or Comparative Literature with English medium. BA degrees from departments of American Culture and Literature, English Linguistics, English Translation and Interpretation, and English Language Teaching can also apply on the condition that they document English Language and Literature as their minor degree or the successful completion of undergraduate course work of 18 credits in English Language and Literature,
At least 90 out of 100 in the national YDS English proficiency exam, or an equivalent grade in other exams approved by the University,
Candidates must receive minimum 80 standard score in one of the quantitative, verbal or equally-weighted scores from Academic Staff and Graduate Education Entrance Examination (ALES) which has been done by Evaluation, Selection and Placement Centre (ÖSYM) or international exams such as GRE and GMAT whose equivalence are approved by the Hacettepe University Senate.
