Overview
The Chemistry - Chemistry and Science Communication and Society Specialisation from Leiden University -specific components consist of both courses and an internship are offered by lecturers in Science Communication & Society (SCS). The primary focus in this specialisation is on science communication in the Netherlands, and students explore various aspects of professional science communication.
The internship will be in the field of science communication (e.g. science journalism, museology, new media, health communication). The total internship period may consist of one internship, or can be divided into 2 smaller internships. Each internship includes a written report and an oral presentation.

The Master of Science programme guarantees thorough research training founded on a sound theoretical basis. After graduating you have excellent knowledge of fundamental Chemistry and highly developed research skills. Some examples of career at the interface of science and public affairs are: science writer, science policymaker, public relations officer or research scientist with particular communication skills.

General requirements
- Admissible to the specialisation Science Communication and Society (SCS) are all students that are admitted to one of the designated Master Programmes of the Faculty of Science (see programs below) or the Master Programme in Biomedical Sciences of the Faculty of Medicine (LUMC) provided that the rules and regulations of the subject Master Programme do allow so. Preferably, applicants will have completed some coursework in (science) communication in their BSc programme.
- In addition, international applicants must provide proof of proficiency in English with an IELTS ≥ 6.5.
