The Master in Insurance & Risk Management at MIB Trieste School of Management prepares graduates and young professionals for careers in insurance, risk management, consulting, financial services and corporate strategy.
Designed for candidates from diverse academic backgrounds: including economics, finance, law, engineering, mathematics, statistics, STEM, political and social sciences. MIRM provides the analytical, technical and managerial foundations to work across technical, commercial, strategic, control and business development roles.
Programme focus
MIRM combines insurance and risk management with business innovation, management and decision-making. Participants explore risk assessment, insurance operations, financial services, regulatory frameworks, corporate strategy and emerging areas such as machine learning, big data, open innovation and new product development.
The learning experience is practical and collaborative. Through group projects, business cases, project-based learning and interaction with an international cohort, participants work on real-world issues from different perspectives and develop the analytical, managerial and interpersonal skills needed to operate in complex organisations.
Learning is strongly connected to the industry through expert guest lectures, company talks, recruiting days and project-based activities. Developed in cooperation with leading corporate partners, the programme gives participants direct exposure to industry leaders and top recruiters.
Learning experience
The programme is flexible and customizable: participants can study full-time or part-time, on campus in Trieste or online, and tailor part of their path through electives and optional international experiences. MIRM is offered as a Double Degree with the University of Trieste.
Career prospects
MIRM graduates enter a wide range of career paths across the insurance and risk ecosystem, including insurance companies, consulting firms, financial services, banks, brokers, investment firms, Big Four companies and corporate risk management departments.
Professional areas include finance management, risk and business analysis, business development, corporate governance, insurance strategy, consulting and advisory, data management and operations management. Depending on their profile and interests, graduates may also move into technical, managerial, commercial, international, strategic or innovation-oriented roles.
The programme reports a 96% placement rate within 6 months after graduation. The Career Service supports participants from the beginning of the programme through career coaching, CV and interview preparation, recruiting events, company presentations and connections with the School’s corporate network.

MIRM is a 60 ECTS programme structured around core courses, electives, applied activities and a final project.

- Insurance Business Management: reporting, IFRS, digital transformation, marketing, corporate finance, strategy, ESG
- Insurance Actuarial Management: actuarial risk management, life and non-life insurance
- Risk Management: enterprise, financial and insurance risk management
- Business Innovation: new product development, machine learning for business analytics
- Leadership Dynamics: management and personal development skills
Electives
Participants can customize their path through electives and activities such as data analytics, digital marketing, reinsurance, open innovation, strategy consulting, internships, exchange programmes and study tours.
Final project
The programme concludes with a final project on an insurance, finance or risk management topic.

Living costs
Trieste
The living costs include the total expenses per month, covering accommodation, public transportation, utilities (electricity, internet), books and groceries.
Funding
Tuition waivers are applied directly to the tuition fee and awarded by the Admissions Board based on academic and professional background, motivation, leadership potential and selection results.
Funding varies by format:
- Full-time in-person MIRM: merit-based tuition waivers from 20% to 70%
- Part-time / online MIRM: tuition waivers up to 30%
- Selected corporate scholarships: up to 100% of the tuition fee
Current corporate scholarships include full-tuition awards by Generali, Allianz, and Fondazione Mario Gasbarri with Alleanza Assicurazioni, plus selected partial scholarships by Allianz.
