Overview

In this Medicinal Chemistry specialisation at Radboud University you will deal with the discovery, design, development, targeted delivery, and both pharmacological and analytical characterisation of drug substances.

You will learn how to develop a potential drug candidate on a molecular level and get acquainted with the latest trends in the field used to understand and tackle the molecular mechanisms of disease.

Future career opportunities

Medicinal chemists are indispensable in the preclinical stages of drug development. We stimulate our Master's students to develop a critical mind and a problem solving attitude. Some of them will become the next generation of top scientists and, in our experience, all of them will have a job within a couple of months after graduation.

Approximately fifty percent of our graduates will become a PhD student at a university, while others will work at a research institute in the (bio)chemical or health industry or in one of our spin-off companies. A small portion chooses a job outside of the scientific world, for example as policymaker at a governmental organisation.

General requirements

Entering the Master’s specialisation in Medicinal Chemistry requires a Bachelor’s degree in one of the subjects below. Your foreign Bachelor's degree must be equivalent to a Bachelor's degree obtained at a Dutch research university.

Please be aware that there are two types of higher education in the Netherlands: a university of applied sciences and a research university.

Students must have passed (preliminary) examinations containing the following subject matter:

Organic Chemistry (9 credits)

Inorganic Chemistry (3 credits)

Physical Chemistry / Thermodynamics (3 credits)

Additional 30 credits of chemistry or molecular life science related courses on an advanced Bachelor's level.
