Overview
Data Science deals with large, heterogeneous data (big data) from different application areas, in order to obtain valuable findings and meaningful and actionable information to generate actionable information. Tasks in Data Science include obtaining a thorough understanding of the problem domain (Business Undestanding), processing and fusion of heterogeneous data from different sources (Data Gathering), analysis and statistical modelling of the Data (Data Analytics) to interactive visualization of the data (Visual Analytics) and the use of the results (Decision Support and Deployment). This curriculum conveys and integrates competences from the fields of information technology, mathematics as well as specific application disciplines.

- The Master's Programme Data Science at Vienna University of Technology provides an indepth, scientifically founded, education. Graduates are qualified, amongst others, to act as a link between the technical infrastructures and the domains in research and development. They are capable of discovering and understanding complex interrelationships, patterns and knowledge from raw data in a structured way and to communicate it efficiently. They have the competence to support research and innovation in the field of eScience both from a core technical perspective as well as interdisciplinarily to drive the development of data-driven technologies.

General requirements
- Admission to a Master's Programme requires a Bachelor's degree in a relevant subject from a technical university or an equivalent qualification at a recognised domestic or foreign higher education establishment.
- Students whose mother tongue is not English must demonstrate their proficiency in English. Proficiency in English at Level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages is recommended for successful progress in the course.
- The curriculum for each Master's Programme shows which courses are relevant to that programme and what the detailed requirements are with regard to technical and linguistic skills.
