Course Description
Photonics is the future technology that focuses on the generation, detection, and management of light, enabling the use of light in different areas that are essential to society and the economy. A degree in photonics can lead you to an exciting career in many different fields including information and communication technology, lighting and manufacturing, image analysis, security, defense, space, life sciences, and medical technology.
This Photonics program at University of Eastern Finland is intended for the applicants with a Bachelor's degree or equivalent in physics, optics, photonics, physical and engineering sciences with an extensive physics basic education, or another discipline related to the programme, entailing proficiency in physics and mathematics.
Learning objectives:
The objective of Master's degree in photonics is to give students excellent expertise to modern optics and photonics at both theoretical and experimental level. This contains the ability to understand optical phenomena, design and analysis of optical systems, fabrication methods of photonics structures, and ability to scientific and technical communication in photonics.
This all gives the capability to work in photonics related companies as an expert and developer, and to continue to doctoral studies in photonics.

- A previous Bachelor's degree corresponding to at least 3 year's of full time academic studies from an institution for higher education is required from all Master's programme applicants
- Applicants must either (1) meet the language proficiency criteria (see below), or (2) reach the minimum required language test results to be considered eligible to the University of Eastern Finland
