Overview
About Chinese Language and Culture at Fudan University
Unlike the teaching of Chinese as a second language, this program offers multiple perspectives to help the students notice, learn and understand phenomena in Chinese language and culture by using the theories and research methods taught in class. Our study is not limited to ancient Chinese culture, but also includes modern Chinese culture. It takes a linguistic approach as the starting point, but also has many similarities to the social sciences. It is not a long-term language course, but a gateway to an in-depth understanding of China and the many facets of Chinese society through linguistic channels
Academic staffs of the DCLL have gained national and international recognition for their academic achievements in the disciplines of Chinese linguistics, philology, literature, folklore, etc. Their researches are not limited to Chinese language and literature, but involve the comparative studies of remarkable works from all over the world. With the support of these successful scholars, eight classes of our EMA students have completed their studies and graduated from the department.
After class, we organize different types of events, in order to provide our students from different cultural backgrounds with opportunities to get to know each other, to find their friends for on and off campus activities, to share their experiences in their studies and life here at Fudan University and in Shanghai, etc.
