The proposed Medical Bioinformatics master program may also be interesting as a second higher education for doctors, biologists, or other professionals who would like to acquire the skills of medical bioinformatics.

New technologies of biomedicine are rapidly developing today. Their development leads to the possibility of quickly obtaining data on human genomes and transcriptomes, as well as on the genomes and transcriptomes of bacteria and viruses that affect human health. Several thousand genetic diseases are associated with mutations. Genomic and bioinformatic research allows revealing the risks of disease development. Bioinformatics is becoming increasingly important in oncology, when molecular studies of patient's tumor cells allow for the targeted selection of the most effective treatment. For data analysis, special computer programs and databases are used. Possession of them is necessary for implementation in the practice of personalized medicine.

The goal of the Master's program Medical Bioinformatics from Pirogov Russian National Research Medical University is to train specialists who can use bioinformatics methods in medical and clinical research, as well as in the search and creation of new medicinal substances.

Special electives aimed at studying programming, mathematical methods of data analysis, information and communication technologies, designing a database and creating Internet applications are provided for students who have completed a bachelor’s degree in Biology or have a Medical degree.
