Overview
The Post-graduate Program of Studies M.Ed. in Teaching English as a Foreign International Language course from Hellenic Open University is aimed at the post-graduate specialization of those who teach or intend to teach English as a foreign language and, in addition, refers to the emerging dimension of English as an international language of communication.
More specifically, the M.Ed. in English covers all dimensions of English language teaching, from the teaching of comprehension and production of spoken and written English, to the design, development and evaluation of curricula and textbooks, language assessment, the integration of educational technology, the integration of intercultural approaches to teaching, the teaching of English to children and adults, teacher training, and the management of learning difficulties. Upon completion of the Post-Graduate Studies Program, students are expected to be able to:
- Interpret, conduct and present research studies relevant to the subject.
- Understand and demonstrate specialist knowledge and skills in the teaching of English language and its elements. With regard to language teaching, to examine, select and use appropriate methods for the effective learning of all language skills (production and comprehension of written and spoken language) and to examine, evaluate and produce appropriate material for the teaching of the elements of the English language (culture / culture, grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation).
- Critically examine research related to English language acquisition and teaching with a view to adapting and applying it in their classroom.
- Design, develop and evaluate curricula and teaching materials for the teaching of English language.
- Produce, analyze and interpret measurement tools for the linguistic competence of their students in English.
- Identify and select appropriate teaching materials in order to thoroughly integrate New Technologies into their teaching practice for the benefit of their students.
- Understand and put into practice the principles of teaching English for specific purposes
- Recognize and apply intercultural approaches to English language teaching.
- Identify, design and implement programs for the professional development of English language teachers / lecturers based on key principles.
