Career prospects
- The Forthem Master at the University of Burgundy allows to obtain a double degree between the University of Burgundy and the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz.
- At the end of the two years of the Master programme, students are strongly encouraged to pursue a thesis in order to complete their scientific training. These can take place in the fields of research in fundamental or applied Microbiology.
- Nevertheless, at the end of the Master's degree students can also directly continue their career in research and development departments of companies or public research institutions.
Programme Structure
- Students of the International Master's Programme in Microbiology acquire advanced knowledge in the field of microbiology, particularly in the fields of molecular microbiology, microbial physiology and biotechnology as well as microbial ecology with a clear focus on applications in industry, biotechnology, medicine and pharmacy. The program is based on different practical and research courses, which are accompanied by seminars and research talks.

General requirements
- A Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent of 180 ECTS credits in the field of Biology (at the time of application proof of 120 ECTS is sufficient; for enrollment at uB, proof of the obtained Degree is necessary)
- Proof of English language proficiency at the level B2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), according to the standards of uB. If the proof is given by a language test, the testing date may not be more than three years old at the time of application.
- uB conducts the application, administration of the selection process and the admission of prospective students in compliance with the regulations of this agreement and the requirements of the Partner Institution.
- The Programme Directors shall accept students from the pool of applicants who meet the requirements as stated.
- Admitted Students shall be enrolled by uB.
