The MA Cinematography Programme offers students a unique opportunity to develop the necessary skills and techniques to work professionally within the camera department, employ a range of technical and creative techniques to maximise visual storytelling, and explore a range of film formats and processes.

Overview

Students will look at the role of the cinematographer within the wider filmmaking process, and develop their skills towards the completion of a final Master’s project as a cinematographer. 

The MA Cinematography course will equip students with a systematic understanding of the creative and craft skills behind the role of the camera department, giving students a broad range of industry relevant skills within the discipline of cinematography. 

Careers

From the very first day at MetFilm School , we concentrate on employability. Students and graduates of MetFilm School will gain access to our dedicated careers advice department MetFilm Futures, who focus on supporting you and ensuring you develop the skills needed to succeed in the industry.  

MetFilm Production, our sister production company, offers 3-4 in–house work experience placements per year for MetFilm School graduates. Selected graduates work in a variety of capacities on all of MetFilm Production’s films such as award-winning The Reason I Jump, 23 Walks and Swimming with Men.   

Our graduates work across the industry as VFX Artists, Directors, TV Assistant Producers, Script Editors, On-Air Producers, Campaign Managers and many more besides. Below are just some of the companies they’ve gone onto work for.

  • Age: All applicants must be 18 years or older at the time the programme begins
  • Education: A 2:1 honours degree from a UK university or overseas equivalent
  • Students with a degree below a 2:1 equivalent are still able to apply.  They will need to submit the following in addition to support their application.
  • A compulsory academic essay (750 – 1000 words)
Applicants without a 2.1 degree, but possessing relevant work experience, can still apply and need to submit the following:
  • A compulsory academic essay (750-1000 words)
  • A professional industry reference.
  • A professional CV
