
Overview
The History of Art programme at the University of Malta affords you full creative freedom to approach art history and works of art across the ages and prepares you to write extensively about any given topic within the field, whether that be theories of art or the objects of art themselves with a critical eye and a strong theoretical basis.
This course is intended for students with broad interests and even those who wish to apply a multi-disciplinary approach to art.
Learning outcomes
- Understand the methodologies involved in art historical research
- Cultivate a critical understanding of a research process and various styles of art
- Learn how to make use of archival resources and to write academically about the field
- Collect data for research analysis and apply sources and references to strengthen your writing.
Career
As a holder of the MA in History of Art (by Research), your refined and skilled approach towards critical thought and research will allow you to enter a career as a curator, teacher, art authenticator, conservator, museum administrator or director, art publisher, art librarian, or as a museum reproduction or retail manager. Careers may be taken both locally and internationally.

- the degree of Bachelor of Arts (Honours) with Second Class or better in the same or in a closely related area of study as the area of study applied for
- the degree of Bachelor of Arts in the same or in a closely related area of study as that applied for, with an average mark of not less than 55% in that area or
- a degree from this or from another university which the Board considers as comparable to any of the degrees indicated in paragraphs (a) and (b) above.
