Overview
The Technical Translation and Interpreting course is organised into two programmes: the Essex Programme and the University of Salento Programme. Both programmes essentially offer a similar study plan (you will find a detailed list in the section ‘Course Modules’). The main difference between the two is that the Essex programme is more focussed on translation and interpretation, while the Salento programme is more wide ranging, offering strands including cinema, medicine, history and tourism.
Also, those admitted to the Essex Programme attend the second year at the University of Essex and will be awarded both a Masters in Translation, Interpreting and Subtitling from the University of Essex and a Masters from the Università del Salento in Traduzione Tecnico-Scientifica e Interpretariato.
Career opportunities
Graduates will have advanced spoken and written competence in their respective languages, along with advanced skills in Italian-English translation, interpretation and cultural mediation, including the use of specific translation software.
Given these skills, apart from opportunities in translation and localization or business and community interpreting, proofreading and copyediting, a wide range of opportunities are available wherever bilingual competences are required.
Multmedia production is also included in both study programmes, extending the employment possibilities to include audio-visual, digital and web-based language creation.
