During this Business Development and Internationalisation programme from Umea University you will learn about strategy, innovation, entrepreneurship, networking and business growth which systematically incorporate sustainability and internationalization aspects as they are integral part of our educational environment.
When you follow one of our Master's programs you have the opportunity to do an internship in a company for ten weeks. This possibility exists only at a few Business Schools in the country. The internship gives you a good opportunity to put theoretical knowledge in Business into practice. As a student you will arrange your internship yourself. This way, you can find an internship that meets your expectations.
There are plenty of opportunities for you to study one semester abroad within the program. The Business School offers you the opportunity to study abroad at some 60 universities, mainly in Europe but also in Brazil, Costa Rica,
Canada, China, Russia and South Africa. As a master student you can also apply to Umeå University's agreement to non-European countries such as USA, Australia, Canada.
Double Degree is offered within the MSc in Business Development and Internationalisation together with the University of Vaasa/Finland. The 2nd year (including 30 ECTS Master Thesis) is then spent at Vaasa University, Finland.
The Business School collaborates in many different ways with companies and organizations. As a student, you might perhaps do an internship at one of our corporate partners. Professionals outside the university come to us as guest lecturer and teachers. Our researchers will in turn contribute new knowledge to society. A group of advisors consisting of corporate / community representatives are also linked to the Business School and they contribute with their knowledge and experience.
In addition to leading entrepreneurial ventures, graduates from this program will be equipped to pursue careers in managing business development, lead innovation or strategic change processes. The program's international character also provides good opportunities for a career abroad. The program gives you eligibility to apply for PhD positions.
During the first year the focus is partly on developing the knowledge in developing established and new businesses and partly on broadening the knowledge on innovation through the choice of elective courses. The second year also provide the opportunity to broaden the knowledge through the choice of a minor. Furthermore, you develop your writing, analysis and research skills through the writing of a master's thesis during the second year.
During the second semester you study elective courses and one option is a two months internship.
The third semester includes a compulsory methodological course and a course in recent trends in the field of Business. In addition to this you are given the opportunity to deepen your knowledge in one other area of the field of Business. This semester is also suitable for studying abroad.
Within the program you have a choice whether you want to write two 15 credit theses or one large 30 credit thesis.

The final, overall PBT score ranges between 310 and 677, and is based on an average taken from the three test components (listening, structure, and reading). A Bachelor's degree (equivalent to a Swedish Kandidatexamen, 180 credits) from an internationally recognised university with a major in Business Administration. Special requirements: 75 credits in Business Administration at Basic level (A-level) and Intermediate level (B-level) a minimum of 60 credits in Management, Marketing Accounting and Finance courses or the equivalent. At the Bachelor level (C-level) a minimum of 15 credits in Business Administration. Proficiency in English equivalent to Swedish upper secondary course English B/6. If you are still working towards your undergraduate degree, you need to include with your application a document from your current University, outlining when you are expected to graduate as well as a course outline for the last semester.
