Overview

The Teaching English as an Additional Language program from Simon Fraser University, will provide students with advanced knowledge of theoretical, research and practical issues in teaching English language learners.

Normally, two years of full-time classroom teaching experience is required for admission to the program.

Features

Most students in the program are full-time teachers in the Vancouver area. All courses are scheduled in the late afternoon/evenings.

Since all students are experienced teachers, the program does not make provisions for Fieldwork courses. As most students also work full-time, most take one course per term and this affects core course scheduling.
Course contents address globalized contexts of English as an International Language (EIL) education and attend more fully to ESL situations. Most students complete the program in six terms.

a bachelor’s degree from SFU or its equivalent from a recognized institution

a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.33 scale, or 3.33 on a 4.33 scale (B+) based on the last 60 credits of undergraduate courses. All graduate work is also considered.
