Overview
The aim of the Global Urban Health (MSc GUH) at University of Freiburg is to convey knowledge, skills and competences concerning the identification and management of risks factors for health in big cities, especially, but not only, in low- and middle income countries. Learn here, how you can become a part of it!
Quick Facts:
- The focus includes the application of appropriate research methods and implementation strategies for the special requirements of areas such as concept development, planning and implementation of health-related interventions. Main topics covered are analysis of environmental health risk factors and socio-economic determinants of health in urban areas, epidemiology and infectious diseases, as well as migration, violence and mental illness within vulnerable groups of the urban population.
- The tremendous social and health challenges resulting from future mega-cities and large sections of slum dwellers will need to be addressed in terms of health services, health services providers and sufficient numbers of people trained in using forecasts, trend analyses, health scenario building and other methods to cope with the future health needs in interconnected urban environments.
- Postgraduate training in Global Urban Health is therefore essential for the future health policy development and health implementers worldwide.
- All major national institutions working in Development Cooperation (such as GIZ, KfW, MsF, Red Cross) and international organizations (including WHO, Global Fund, World Bank, UNEP, UNICEF) require a postgraduate Masters Degree in Public Health, International Health, Global Health or related areas (including Urban Health).
