The Bioinformatics Online MSc is a 180 credit full masters programme which takes approximately two and a half years to complete. Students will take six 10 credit modules in their first year, followed by six 10 credit modules in their second year. Studies are completed with the submission of a 60 credit dissertation. You may also exit with a PGDip or PGCert.

Lecturers
The MSc Bioinformatics (online) programme is led by Dr Anas Rana, who is a Lecturer in the Institute of Cancer and Genomic Sciences at the University of Birmingham.
For each module you will also have a dedicated module convenor and seminar tutor, who will be in contact with you on a weekly basis to guide you through the programme content, discussion activities, and assignments.

General requirements
- For entry to the Online MSc, you will need to have obtained (or be predicted to obtain) an upper second-class degree or postgraduate diploma in life sciences, biomedical sciences, mathematics, computer science or another relevant quantitative subject from a UK university OR an equivalent qualification from a recognised institution.
- We may accept applications with a lower degree and relevant work experience.
- If English is not your first language, you will need to supply an up-to-date English language certificate. Alternative test certificates are also accepted, and exemptions can be made.
Offer in Principle:
Email your degree certificate (onlineadmissions@contacts.bham.ac.uk) to us and a member of the online admissions team will provide feedback within 48 hours. Students who meet standard entry criteria are eligible for an ‘Offer in Principle,’ which is valid for 30 days. If you receive one, we can support you in submitting a fast-tracked application.
Technological requirements
All programme content will be delivered through Canvas – the University’s online learning platform. Therefore, students will need:
