The MPhil/PhD in Design offers two distinct pathways:

• Practice-based MPhil/PhD: Focuses on generating new knowledge through design practice, culminating in a thesis that integrates original practice with critical analysis.
• Thesis-based MPhil/PhD: Involves a comprehensive written account of research contributions to design knowledge, supported by critical literature assessment.

The MPhil requires a written component of 20,000 to 30,000 words for practice-based and 30,000 to 60,000 words for thesis-based, while the PhD demands 30,000 to 60,000 words for practice-based and 60,000 to 100,000 words for thesis-based.
