Overview
Human and commercial transport is increasing at an increasing rate in the world (References). Logistics, as defined by the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP), the world’s largest logistics organization; It is the process of planning, implementing and supervising the procedures necessary for the efficient ransportation and storage of all products and related information, including services, from the point of origin to the destination, in line with the needs of the customer.
This definition includes inward, outward, internal and external movements. Based on this definition, Logistics Management and Industrial Engineering departments provide training at various levels on various topics within the field.
However, the importance of the designs of this increasing amount of logistics systems and the efficiency of their work are equally important.
Within the logistics sector, land transportation has the biggest share with 2 trillion dollars. At the same time, it is observed that 80% of world trade is carried out by sea and this ratio is increasing.
Turkey, due to its location, is situated in a very advantageous position in the international maritime and road transport.
Turkey Logistics industry with the influence of this position ranked 34 in terms of logistics performance in the World Bank Logistics Performance Index with 3.15 points in 2007. In 2014 Turkey was ranked 30th.
One of the most important conditions for the continuation of the rise in this ranking is the individuals trained in the skills and equipment needed by the sector. Yasar University Logistics Engineering graduate program aims to cover the shortage of trained individuals in this field.
