Overview

The Social Studies Education program at University of British Columbia is a course-based degree that does not require a research thesis.

In addition to the required coursework, a vibrant graduate student community is fostered through speaker series, research centres, seminars, and study groups. Many social studies faculty and students are actively involved in The History Education Network.

Features

The Master of Education (M.Ed.) program is designed primarily for practicing teachers who wish to learn more about curriculum, teaching, and learning through the program areas offered by the Department and who intend to return to teaching upon completion of the degree. Students who feel that they might at some future date be interested in enrolling in a doctoral program are advised to follow a Master of Arts (M.A.) program rather than an M.Ed.

All applicants have to submit transcripts from all past post-secondary study. Document submission requirements depend on whether your institution of study is within Canada or outside of Canada.

A minimum of three references are required for application to graduate programs at UBC. References should be requested from individuals who are prepared to provide a report on your academic ability and qualifications.

This program contains a practicum component for which a criminal record check is required.

Permanent Residents of Canada must provide a clear photocopy of both sides of the Permanent Resident card.
